The Hualālai ‘Ohana Foundation offers Educational and Tutoring Awards to support the educational goals of our eligible employee families and provides financial assistance with tutoring of a child or adult.

Program Mission:

This program supports the educational goals of our eligible employee families and provides financial assistance with tutoring of a child or adult, and/or provides financial support.  To support the educational goals of our eligible employee families and to provide financial assistance with tutoring of a child or adult, and/or to provide financial support for eligible recipients who wish to take strides toward their educational or career advancement; or deepening their cultural studies through coursework.

Focus is on Core skills, including, but not limited to leadership, life management, personal and inter-personal development, foreign languages, intern or specialty classes on college campuses, Curriculum based club programs, pre-college programs and credited study abroad programs and software education are eligible to all employees and family members, regardless of job position.

Program Overview:

Educational Opportunities Award amounts are equal to 50% – 90% of the eligible program applied for; not to exceed $1,000 per recipient per the calendar year.  The Educational Opportunity Award is not necessarily aimed toward an academic degree, but should be relevant to the applicant’s chosen (or aspiring) career path; or toward gaining a greater understanding of Hawaiian culture.

Off-Island Educational Opportunities Award amounts are equal to 50% of the eligible costs applied for; not to exceed $3,000 per recipient per the calendar year.  The Off-Island Learning Award is similar to the Educational Opportunities Award and uses the same criteria for the eligible program, but is designed for programs off-island to support with the added expense of travel related costs.   Limited to three awards per family, per the calendar year.

Tutoring Award amounts are equal to 50% – 90% of the eligible tutoring program applied for; not to exceed $2,000 per recipient per the calendar year.

Eligible Recipients:
Employees, their spouses and legally dependent children up to age 21.  Employees who are not parents of children they are applying for must provide documentation of legal guardianship.  If the child does not reside with the employee, financial information for the custodial parent will be required.
Program Restrictions:
The following types of programs/training are not eligible: athletic, religious or spiritual training, or more than one career change per recipient.  The foundation reserves the right to determine the eligibility of all programs.  If you are not sure if your program will qualify, please contact the foundation and an individual review can be done to determine eligibility.  Eligible recipients may apply multiple times throughout the year, but total award amounts are not to exceed the specific program limits within the calendar year.
